Ingredients

  • cup chola dal split cowpeas
  • 3 cup water
  • ½ cup spinach chopped
  • ½ tsp lemon juice
  • ½ tsp ginger-green chilli paste
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp fruit salt

Stuffing Mixture

  • 1 cup paneer mashed
  • ¼ cup corns semi-crushed
  • ¼ tsp red chilli powder
  • ½ tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Soak chola dal in 3 cups water for overnight or around 8 hours.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix all the ingredient listed under "Stuffing mixture" and keep it aside.
  3. Chop a bunch of spinach leaves once you ready to make idlis.
  4. Grind soaked dal, chopped spinach, lemon juice, ginger-green chilli paste, salt, water and make a smooth paste.
  5. Half fill idli steamer with water and heat the water.
  6. Once you are ready to steam the idlis, add the fruit salt in a mixture and mix it well.
  7. Grease the idli moulds with a drop of oil and add a spoon full of batter.
  8. Now add a small spoon of the stuffing mixture. Add a spoon full of batter again.
  9. Steam the idlis for 10 mins or until they are cooked.
  10. Serve hot with onion or tomato chutney and sambhar.

Recipe Notes

JOOSyTip: Don't add too much of stuffing mixture, over-stuffing will spoil the texture of idli.
